The annual Marine Corps Marathon will be held Sunday, October 31 in Washington, DC. They will be running at least five buses, a lead vehicle, a tail vehicle, a command operations center, and a medical center on APRS. I am not sure if they will get gated or not, but I plan to check it out, as I used to participate in this event using APRS every year. It will be interesting to see if I can see any of my old friends via internet gated aprs or not.
The briefing document I recieved today indicates that the main race will start at 8:30 A.M. Eastern.
I would say to start, try to focus on a 5-10 mile area around the Iwo Jima Memorial in Washington DC. You may see tactical calls instead of callsigns showing up such as bus1, COC etc....
I would not send them any messages, as they are basically working with the Marine aid stations and dealing with medical emergencies etc...so it is very busy and very controlled. |
