After many years of digipeating from Winnetka, the North Shore Radio Club's digi, NS9RC, is going to relocate. The high school building that has served as its home for many years is going to go through a complete interior gutting and external rehab, so the antennas will have to go. The club digi is temporarily relocated at my QTH in Northfield, but will eventually move to a 500 ft. high location on the north side of Chicago. Hopefully this will help to replace some of the coverage once provided by the WB9WOZ-15 digi that was located on a Loop office building. W9AZ-15 has excellent coverage up to the Loop from University Park, hopefully the new location of NS9RC will provide equally good coverage from the Loop north to Lake Forest or more. No date has been scheduled yet, but the NS9RC digi should be installed within the next couple months.

On Thursday, 6/17, the rebuilt North Shore Radio Club APRS digi was relocated to Techny on top (but inside) of the south tower of the Devine Word church. It was rebuilt with a new Kantronics TNC with 3.91 firmware and a Motorola commercial transceiver running 25 watts to a commecial Comtelco 3dB gain antenna. The antenna is at the 95 foot level and is actually 40 feet higher than it was previously in Winnetka. This location was chosen over the previously announced location for ease of installation and target coverage area. |
