W9DRR-10 (formerly KB9AYF-10) has finally returned to the airwaves north of Rockford IL.

This digi, if it performs at it's new home as well as it did before, should provide stellar coverage for the area.

I'll leave N9MXQ-15 up for a bit to ensure DRR's stability, and then it will re-re-retire until needed or placed in a new home.

Seems I was a bit premature on this announcement. DRR-10 was up on the internet only.

Guess next time I see the icon I'll have to double check...

Just got a message from Don W9DRR about the status of DRR-10:
Quote:

getting close, it is receiving and should be reporting them to the internet,
digi and gateway on.. working out issue on the TX side, maybe in the cable
not getting any PTT or txaudio... going to try changing TNC's. Need to
double check the cable as well. should be up in the next couple days.

javAPRSSrvr server is up:

http://w9drr.ath.cx:14501

It is decoding packets ok so im getting there slowly. My old setup bit the dust
so rebuilding from scratch. Much better PC this time. Dual Xeon 2.2ghz
2U rackmount, 1Gig ram. 73Gig 10krpm scsi drive.

When this does get up and running I'll be looking for a new home for MXQ-15. I'll be removing the tower, antenna, and feedline from the location it's at now for use elsewhere...

DRR-10 appears to be fully operational. Which is good, with MXQ-15 dying overnight... Rolling Eyes Twisted Evil

W9DRR has informed me that he has taken all of his systems offline with no plans on returning.

I'm scrambling to get MXQ-15 back up and on the air... Geesh, here we go again....

W9DRR-10 has been re purposed to ARES Winlink duty on 145.61.. I have my home system set to digi until I get around to resurrecting n9mxq-15..

Some times I think it's not worth it...

N9MXQ-15 is operational as we speak on my dummy load. Hope to have it back at it's position (the one it shows) tomorrow.

Once more into the breach.....

Gene, thanks again for all your work in trying to keep APRS alive.

Unfortunately the coverage for my mobile station seems to be very very spotty in Rockford... I'm running 50W on a 5/8 wave whip so I'm not sure why it would be so bad, but I get almost nothing up in Machesney Park and HWY 251 area, and down to Riverside and Mulford which is my daily trip. Most days now I don't even get a blip.

I was suspecting something in my setup had gone bad, but last night I dipped a bit further down to Newburg and I got picked up there.

If 50W on a 5/8 wave antenna can't get coverage, I don't know what mobile station is going to. I thought Don said that a fill-in digi was coming, so I guess we'll wait and see how that pans out. Just giving you a status report as requested. Smile

(As an aside and way off this topic, the stupid Captcha thing to register for this forum took about six tries before I finally managed to guess correctly. What a frustrating experience, it's worse than most I've run into as far as ability to decipher what letters are what. Is SPAM and robots that much of a problem here?)

There is light at the end of the tunnel.

Don has a spot on the tower where DRR-10 was for me. I just have to come up with a 2m vertical to put there.. (With N connector)

As money is really tight now I don't know when this will happen.

N9MXQ-15 is doing it's best. There's a ridge between it and the Machesney Park area and that could be the problem.

We could use a fill digi (WIDE1-1 only) in Rockford if someone could put one up. Heck, we could use fill in digis everywhere...

I have an antenna that I picked up from Len N9QIP at the hamfest this weekend.

It's a commercial VHF monster (I think he said 7db gain or so) that's nigh on 20 feet.. Will need to get a mount to put it on the tower.

Everything is coming together...slowly but surely..
