Hi All,

I just installed a Kenwood TM-D700 and Avmap G4T in the car. I set my path to WIDE1-1, WIDE2-2. Is this the right setting? My other question is about the SSID on my call. I have mycall set to AC9Z. Do I need the SSID, if if so what should it be set to? Is there a protocol to follow?

Thanks for any help you can lend

Your path looks good, it seems to be the standard now-a-days. As far as your SSID, most mobiles that are cars use -9. But there are diffearant id's for Jeeps, bikes, planes, ambulances, etc... So your mycall would be AC9Z-9.

Cheers

Hi Marty es da group,

Congratulatulations on the new setup, and welcome to APRS.. I saw you the other day heading home, and noticed the "new Comer!" hi

For what its worth, Bob Bruninga suggested when the D-700 and D-7 first came out, that we could use -1 for the D-700 so as to inform others that you had in car messageing and for the D-7, we could use -7.. He was suggesting also, that the -9 SSID would and could probably indicate to everyone, don't bother sending me a message, I won't get it!

I have been passing this along to others and my friends who also have the Kenwoods and they have pretty much went along with it. It isn't official by any means, but I think it works.. Kinda interesting to see how some people send messages to TT's and other "dumb" trackers just wanting to be friendly of course!

Robbie and again, glad to see you on my map!
